Period 1--ELA B 30
We discussed what they did last week on Thursday and Friday while I was gone. They had read two essays "Who Are You?" and "What's Your Right Name?" as well as a fun look at the song "A Boy Named Sue." We moved on today with a new short story titled "By Any Other Name" where the kids had to look at connections they make in reading. They had to find connections to themselves (memories they may have), connections to text (other books, plays, movies, media), and connections to the world (looking at other events in the world--current events). We didn't quite finish, but will do so tomorrow.
Period 2--ELA B 30
We needed to finish the essay "What's Your Right Name?" that they started last week. We didn't quite get ginished this, but will wrap it up tomorrow.
AP 30: WE set the due date for their Oedipus Rex essay for next Monday (October 3). They were given a new assignment that requires them to research three classical Greek/Roman plays: The Iliad, The Odyssey, and The Aeneid. Once they research and summarize the plays, they need to create a persuasive essay to say which one of these stories should be taught, in full, in the AP classroom. They will get tomorrow and Thursday to continue working on this.
Period 3--Pre-AP 10
We reviewed the parts of the play that they read last week. As we were donig so, we identified the climax of the play (Act III, scene iii) and why that is the climax. We worked together to paraphrase the Hecate speech. We finished off Act III shortly after the bell, so we'll start fresh again tomorrow if we get our practice multiple choice finished.
Period 4--History 10
We had a couple of girls that presented their current events for Miss Campbell. After this, they chose their topics and then it was off to the computer lab to work on their assignment. I'm not usre if Miss Campbell has set a due date yet or not, I'll check that out for tomorrow.
Period 5--History 30
Since most them weren't finished from Friday, I gave them some extra time to finish their provincial research. We will start presentations tomorrow. I've moved their exam to Friday. Those who know that they aren't going to be here on Friday will have to make arrangements with me to write their exam at a different time.
