Period 1--ELA B 30
We spent considerable time on Sylvia Plath's poem, "The Mirror." In fact, our discussion of the poem took the entire class. We did some introductory questions about what you see in the mirror, looking at the inner self as well as the outer self. Once we finished reading the poem, we spent some time analyzing it on various levels. Finally, the students had some questions that we were able to go through together by the time the bell rang.
Period 2--AP 30
I gave the students a handout on Stream of Consciousness and then we read James Joyce's poem "Ulysses" as an example. The students now have the dubious task to create a stream of consciousness poem of their own. They can either write it about themselves, or if they are not comfortable enough with that, they can adopt the persona of one of the characters in any of the literature that we have read throughout their AP years. They were given some time to work on this.
Period 3--AP 10
They worked on their Fever Charts today.
Period 4--History 10
In continuing with Standard of Living, we had some notes that took a comparitive look between the Iroquois Confederacy and the European world view and how that translates into a different standard of living. We will continue along this vein on Monday.
