Wow--Sorry for the late update! We had family over for Thanksgiving and I was frantically cleaning and cooking, so I forgot about the blog!
This is what we did on Friday:
Period 1 & 2 Grade 12 ELA
We used this as a "clean-up" class. The kids had a number of assignments still outstanding, so it was time to get things cleared up so we can start fresh on Tuesday.
Assignments that they were working on in "regular" ELA B 30:
Making connections in reading: "By Any Other Name"
Reading Assessment: "Shooting an Elephant"
Entrance slip: "The Nose"
Fictional Journal Entry: "The Nose"
The AP students have the following assignments:
Oedipus Rex essay (elements of a tragedy)
Persuasive essay on Classical literature
They have the essay options for Frankenstein, but we're not quite there yet. I'd like to go over the prompts with the kids, but if they are ahead of the game, they can get started.
Period 3--Pre-AP 10
These guys used this class to finsih their first timed write. They finished.
Period 4--History 10
Miss Campbell had the kids look at how commercials play a role in the market economy. They then had some notes on supply and demand and looked at a chart about economics. Finally, they played jeopardy with economics.
Period 5--History 30
There were quite a few handouts for this class. We finished discussing the origins of the First Nations in North America, we then looked at what prompted the Europeans to explore and expand in North America. We also looked at the 4 different ways two cultures can acculturate to one another: anhiliation, segregation, assimilation, and accomodation. We looked at various examples of two cultures dealing with each other throughout history and a brief overview of how the First Naitons and Europeans have handled their cultural differences.
