Period 1--ELA B 30
We're starting in on Beowulf, so before we get there, we have to look at the evolution of the English language. There is a booklet the students were able to view examples of Old, Middle and Modern English as well as the various contributions other cutlures have made to our language. We also discussed the importance of the printing press on the standardization of the English language. Some of the things focussed on today--alliteration and kennings.
Period 2--ELA B 30/AP 30 split
ELA B 30--They had this class to finsih their "Identity" assignment. It is due Monday.
AP 30--They worked on their Frankenstein essay. The due date is set for Nov 7.
Period 3--Pre-AP 10
They worked on their Macbeth essay. Many of them are making considerable progress. They will have time to continue this on Monday. The due date is set for this for Nov. 14th.
Period 4--History 10
I was able to teach this class today as Miss Campbell was away at conference which was a lot of fun for me! We discussed Dialectic Thinking using a real-life issue in the classroom. Then, we looked at the two viewpoints of the colonits vs. the patriots. The students were given an assignment where they had to choose ONE viewpoint (either colonist or patriot) and write a newspaper article from that point of view.
Period 5--History 30
We finished off our dicussion of New France and for the last few minutes, the kids were given the chance to work on some questions that should work as a review of the information. The students also decided they wanted an exam soon so all the info didn't get overwhelming, so next Friday (Oct 29th) we will look at explorers, first nations, contact, New France and New England.
