Period 1--ELA B 30
We finished reading "The Nose" today.  The students were then given a writing assignment where they have to create a fictional journal entry.  They have to picture what it would be like if they were considered incredibly beautiful in their home culture, only to have that culture removed from them.  Their new culture considers them ugly and they must fight to survive.  In their 3 journal entries, they are to consider what it must be like to experience that and think about what impact that may have on their identity.  Each of the 3 journal entries should be approximatley 1/2 to 3/4 of a page.

Period 2--ELA B 30
The students used this class to finish their reading assessment of "Shooting An Elephant."  Once they finish this, they were to comment on an orange handout I gave them about their opinions of plastic surgery.  They should then share this opinion with someone else who will comment on whether they agree or disagree with that opinion.  Finally, they should read the short story "The Nose."

AP 30s--we continued viewing the Frankenstein power point.  There are some good coversations about this.

Period 3--Pre-AP 10
We finished reading Act IV.  I also gave them their character analyses back to them with a lot of feedback.  Students are encouraged to view their feedback before their next piece of writing.  Speaking of which, their next piece of writing will be what we call a "timed write."  In the next day or two, we'll figure out how to write a timed write (essentially an in-class essay) and how to use resources of language effectively to support a thesis.

Period 4--History 10
Miss Campbell went through their paradigm worksheets from yesterday to help make sure that the kids understand what the concept is about.  They had other handouts with some questions that look at the Iroquois vs European worldview as well as the 16-18th centure worldview vs modern worldview in regards to economic decisions.  Students should check with Miss Campbell if they missed class.

Period 5--History 30
We did a role playing excercize today to show the kids the challenges of the Eurpeans as well as the First Nations when the point of contact occurred.  It was quite entertaining watching the traders try to figure out the new culture.  We started a RAN chart whcih examines what the kids think they know about the point of contact and Canada's First Nations.  We'll finish going over this tomorrow.
