Period 1 & 2--ELA 20
We reviewed "The Penny in the Dust" from before the break. We summarized the content of the short story as well as the idea of both symbols and irony. This led into some class discussion (as much as can be done on Monday after a 10 day break!). Then, the students were given some time to work on a representing assignment. This requires them to examine five different symbols that reflect who and what they are.
Period 3--AP 30
We needed to finish the discussion on Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, so we did so. This took up the entire class as we were able to engage in some interesting discussions about existentialism and truth.
Period 4--ELA B 30
We read a more detailed excerpt from Beowulf. This allowed the students to see and locate examples of kennings, caesura, and alliteration. We defined these terms and some examples before applying it to the literature.
Period 5--AP 10
We took down 10 more literary devices for a quiz on Friday. As promised from before the break, the students will get this class as well as a class tomorrow to finish up their I-Search paper.
Period 6--AP 20
We took down 10 more literary devices for a quiz on Friday. They were given four subjects to research in preparation for our study on The Crucible.
