May 4, 2012

Whoops, sorry I forgot to post yesterday.  This is what Friday looked like:

Period 1--AP 30
We finished our discussion of Lord of the Flies and with the few minutes remaining, we reviewed each of the major pieces of literature we examined throughout the year.  The list was fairly impressive!  Their homework over the weekend was to review each of those works for theme, main characters, and important symbols or motifs.

Period 2--Pre-AP 20
First of all, we did their literary devices quiz.  Then, we finished reading the short story "The Fly."  Finally, the students did some multiple choice questions to go with the short story.  WE weren't quite finished taking them up, so we'll complete that on Monday.

Period 3--ELA A 30
We finished our viewing of Strange Brew and added to the list of Canadian stereotypes.  We spent considerable time discussing the projected audiences of this movie as well as discussed our idea of what "Canadian humour" is.  Their immediate assignment for this is to write a movie review.  They were given a handout with step-by-step instructions as to how to write one and will get some time to do so on Monday.  We finsihed the class off with viewing the original SCTV skits of "The Great White North" so the kids know where the premise for the movie came from.  As a treat for Friday, we viewed a few clips from Rick Mercer's "Talking to Americans" until the bell rang.

Period 4--Pre-AP 10
As a special treat, a concert and jazz band from Invermere, BC visited our school today.  Since half my class consists of band students who were required to attend, I got permission for the remainder of the class to attend.  It was an impressive concert, so congratulations certainly go out to those band students from Invermere.
