Period 1--AP 30
We're tying up some loose ends from our AP world before we move on with the regular ELA A 30 course load. They need to write their "monster" essay for Lord of the Flies that requires them to use secondary sources. We reviewed the essay prompts and I made some secondary sources available to them. They will get all their ELA classes next week to work on this.
Period 2--Pre-AP 20
We spent the entire class talking about William Blake's "The Tyger" and its comparison to "The Lamb." I introduced the premise of the two "Holy Thursday" poems to them which we will continue with on Monday.
Period 3--ELA A 30
We first reviewed the events of the short story "The Painted Door" before we finished reading the rest of the story. We discussed the character motivations: Why did Ann have an affair? Why did John go to help his father? Why did he come back? Did he commit suicide? How will Steven feel about the death of John. Before the bell rang, we looked at the three characters and came up with characterisitcs of each.
Period 4--Pre-AP 10
We continued with our study of the deeper ideas in Fahrenheit 451. We went through the main characters and are just examining the theme of censorship.
