Period 1--AP 30
We reviewed important aspects of the novel, Lord of the Flies through a power point lecture today. We will finish with this tomorrow.
Period 2--Pre-AP 20
We compared the short story "Little Things" to the biblical story about the Wisdom of Solomon. We looked at thematic implications, similarities and differences between the stories, and the different purposes of the narrator. Then, we moved to looking at critiques of Carver's work. I read the various critiques aloud and the students had to look for important words or phrases in the critique, indicate whether or not they agreed with the critic, and then whether or not it applies to the short story. We didn't finish going over them, so we'll do that tomorrow.
Period 3--ELA A 30
We discussed stereotypes again today and then apllied those stereotypes as we start to view Strange Brew. We'll continue wit this viewing tomorrow and then the students will work on their assignments that accompany the viewing activity.
Period 4--Pre-AP 10
The grade 10s were not at school today as they took part in the PARTY program that educates students about choices they make and the possible consequences they might have. Students would have been exposed to a mock crash site with students as the victims (and perhaps perpetrator), the emergency room hospital, a mock funeral, and informational sessions. This is a valuable experience for them.
