Period 1--ELA A 30
The students were assigned The Secret Lives of Sgt. John--we don't have enough, so we have to read it in two stages. I also handed back various assignments, and reminded the students that their editorial on the Canadian Identity that required them to interview 3 people is due on Tuesday of next week. From there, we moved into the lesson for the day. We discussed Canada's nature as a country of immigrants by looking at our own ethnic backgrounds. Through this, the concept of assimilation was front and centre where we looked at the good and bad aspects of it (and connected it back to our study of April Raintree). We started reading the short story "On a Cold Day" about immigrant women's experiences (coming from Calcutta and the Middle East). We didn't get through the story quite yet, but should tomorrow.
Period 2--AP 30
We continued on with the characters from "the Prologue" and will finish up with them tomorrow.
Period 3 & 4--History 10
In period 3, the students had fun with Mr. Wills as he took them through a simulation of the assembly line. In period 4, they debriefed their simulation and then moved onto some transportation advancements with some excellent clips of early airplanes, the assembly line, interchangeable parts, etc. It was a good lesson!
Period 5--AP 10
We are examining Lady Macbeth's soliloquy to get the students ready to write a timed write. We analyzed the passage together and will look at a sample essay tomorrow.
