January 31, 2014

It was a tough day to start a semester with it being a Friday, but we persevered...

Period 1 & 2--ELA 20
The students were given their course outlines for the semester.  We wen through them together as a class and looked at the big questions that will be asked, and hopefully answered throughout the course.  The students had to choose one of the big questions and then write a paragraph on it as well as work to assess themselves using the rubric provided.  After this, we began reading the essay "Childhood Throughout the Ages" but we didn't get far before the class was over.  To Kill A Mockingbird was also handed out to the students.

Period 3--AP 30/ELA A 30
We are moving through some of the poetry we needed to deal with that we didn't have time for last semester.  With this class, we worked with the poetry of John Donne.  The students taking ELA A 30 were given the course outline and handouts on Canadianisms with matching.

Period 4--ELA B 30
This was a bit of a gong-show of a class; we were missing many, and were feeling very "Friday" today.  The course outline was given out amongst much discussion and we eventually looked at the big questions for the unit.  The students had to write on one of the questions so I can assess their writing ability.

Period 5--AP 10
We are starting a new course with the unit "Mysteries of Life."  As such, we discussed ghost stories and then I read many from Ghost Stories of Saskatchewan.  We will get down to work next week.

Period 6--AP 20
We finished going over the multiple choice questions for the practice exam from long ago.  The students were also handed out a double entry journal for Medicine River.
