WECOME BACK AFTER OUR VERY LONG CHRISTMAS BREAK!!!

Period 1--ELA B 30
We jumped right back to work to hinish Hamlet off today.  This class had finished the Nunnery scene and so we viewed the Mousetrap scene.  We noticed the erratic behaviour of Hamlet and the debates are starting as to whether he is really mad or just acting.  We then read the climax of the play and noted the irony of Claudius's inability to pray sincerely even though Hamlet "let" him live due to Claudius's seeming virtue.  The bell rang just as we were getting into the Closet scene.

Period 2--ELA B 30/AP 30
Right to work for this class too!  We had to finish reading the Nunnery scene, noting the perfect "Renaissance woman" in Ophelia!  From there, we watched the Mousetrap scene and we stopped often to clarify characters' meanings and motivations.  We will read the climax of the play tomorrow and continue from there.

Period 3--Pre-AP 10
This is the students' last class to work on their speech preparation.  Their speeches will be delivered next Wednesday and Thursday.  We will be starting in on Animal Farm tomorrow.

Period 4--History 10
We finished the English Civil War and Glorious Revolution unit right before the Christmas break but didn't have a chance for any assessment.  What I'm having the kids do is get into group of 4 or 5 and 've given them last year's exam on the unit.  They work together as a group to answer all the questions which serves as a nice review for the unit.  We didn't finish this today, but will do so tomorrow and take it up.

Period 5--History 30
This is the students' last class to work on their business letter as responsible citizens.  They need to select an issue and write a letter to a person in powe in an effort to either support a change or to affect a change in society.  There was some interesting converstaion about changes that could be made federally, provincially and in our town!  These letters need to be done by Friday.
