January 10, 2012

Period 1--ELA B 30
We finished watching the Closet scene of Hamlet today and discussed it in detail.  One of the things we have to look forward to is the idea of people being caught in deceptions of their own making, as was Polonius.  They have the plot Hamlet unleashes on Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to look forward to.  We read Act IV, scenes i,ii,iii, and iv and will watch Ophelia's mad scene tomorrow.

Period 2--ELA B 30/AP 30
We finished reading the climax and examined the irony of the prayer Claudius composes and Hamlet's decision not to kill him at that moment.  We finished watching the Closet scene, with many stops for discussion along the way.  We will read Act IV tomorrow.

Period 3--Pre-AP 10
We started in on Animal Farm today and learned a bit about Socialism/Marxism as well as George Orwell and the definitions of allegories and fables.  We spent a few fun moments trying to determine what animal we most resemble (characteristicallly speaking, of course!).  We will finish going over an outline of what the Russian Revolution was about and their assignment and then off to the computer lab tomorrow.

Period 4--History 10
The students used this class to finish their open-book review (an old exam).  There will not be an exam for this unit; rather, we'll be doing a project!  We will correct tomorrow.

Period 5--History 30
We spent the class looking at a powerpoint (the students have the handout of it) on treaties and the Indian Act.  We didn't quite finish this, but will do so tomorrow.
