Period 1--AP 20
We started in with our study of Life of Pi and Huckleberry Finn. I had the Huck Finn kids in a different room with their essay questions and a power point of information and took up the power point for Life of Pi with the larger group. Once we have finished going over the power point, we will switch groups. This talk focussed primarily on versimilitude and the idea of the "better story."
Period 2--AP 30
Mr. Farrell continued to take the kids through the play. They viewed a short clip from the Branagh version of Hamlet that clearly showed the contrast between Claudius and Laertes and Laertes sweeps in to storm the castle. This also highlights how Laertes, and even Claudius act as foils to Hamlet.
Period 3--AP 10
We moved to the computer lab to take work on their character sketches for their assigned character in Animal Farm. The kids seem to be having fun with this assignment as it has a multi-media component.
Period 4--History 10
The questions that they had from the textbook reading were due so we corrected those today. Then, they had two handouts about the Reign of Terror that we went through together. I introduced the idea of Napoleon and they were immediately able to see some correlation between Naploleon and Oliver Cromwell. It is interesting for them to see patterns in human behaviour.
