Period 1--History 10
We began watching a documentary titled "Dark Ages" from the History Channel that takes the students through the early Middle Ages. We are about 40 minutes into the 90 minute program so we will continue with this tomorrow. As they watch, students are to jot down notes about important people, places, and events they see. This should support the learning they have already done about this topic and help them formulate information to share for their assignment.
Period 2--ELA A 30
We finished reading chapter two together and then summarized it as a class. After this, the students did another "entrance slip" response to the question "Are you prejudice? Explain." This is not meant to be judgmental for them, but rather to force themselves to look at the issues we are seeing in this novel. The students don't have to share these responses with anyone but me so they are confidential.
Period 3--AP 30
As we continued our study of Paradise Lost "Book One," Satan's character begins to emerge more fully. It will take further time to complete our reading of this and the students will have a timed write to tackle when we are finished.
Period 4--AP 10
Our class finished up our informal study of allusion by going through various Bible stories, Norse myths, and other sources of allusion (Shakespeare, nursery rhymes, etc.). We looked in our "AP Resource Booklet" at the concepts of tone and diction. This becomes important for the students' next assignment. I modelled a speech on "My Favourite Book" of all time for them and the students will be expected to create a speech and then present it on Friday.
Period 5--Mentor period
The grade 12s in my mentor group went to the gym for a student assembly.
Period 6--AP 20
We reviewed the book annotations for "The Curious Life of Benjamin Button" to ensure student understanding. Then, they settled in to do their baseline multiple choice exam. They will need time to finish this on Thursday.
