Period 1--ELA B 30
We reviewed the course outline today with class procedures and literature we care going to be examining. The students were introduced to the "Blues News Assignment" which will force them to be in charge of the school submission tho The Outlook at least once through the year. We are practicing creating a newspaper article based on their happenings for the summer. They have to have three subheadings/topics with a little write up for each (Family Time, Work, etc.) and include a picture. We haven't set a due date yet. They will get some computer time tomorrow.
Period 2--ELA B 30/AP 30 (split)
Pretty much the same as the B30s above. ALL grade 12s are going to be doing this "Blues News Assignment." The AP students were assigned Frankenstein to read by the end of September. They are encouraged to forget everything they think they know about the novel--it is nothing like the movie.
Period 3--ELA AP 10
The students were given the novel Of Mice and Men to read. They also have a "Double Journal Entry" assignment that was given. It was explained thoroughly--they choose 5 things/passages from each chapter that interest them and then write their own impressions about that choice and why they chose it. It shouldn't take long; it's a short novel. We decided that it should be finsihed by September 26th.
Period 4--History 10
The students had a chance to use the textbook that we will be using on occassion to help them find dates for their "Tmeline Assignment." The vast majority completed this portion and then we corrected them together as a class to make sure that when they work on their timeline tomorrow, they are working with the correct dates. Tomorrow, we will plot the dates and events into the actual timeline.
STUDENTS ARE REMINDED TO BRING A BOOK TO READ DURING DEAR TIME!!!
Period 5--History 30
Much of this class was spent talking about the difference between American and Canadian history and how much American history the students seem to know compared to how little they know about Canadian history. We discussed why that might be (media and the size being two of the factors). Shortly before the bell rang, we started reading "Who Killed Canadian History."
This is a blog designed to help students keep aware of what was done in class either as a reminder or as information if they were absent. Parents are also welcome to keep track of what is going on in our classroom!

First Day of School! August 30
Period 1--ELA B 30--Didn't happen today because of registration!! We'll get started tomorrow!
Period 2--ELA AP & B 30
We just looked at the course outlines today and examined how the two courses are going to run simultaneoulsy. It's not a perfect solution, but having this as a split class is the only way that we can get everything for everyone. At times they will be studying teh same literature and doing similar assignments but at other times, they will diverge and follow separate paths. We'll all just have to be focussed and patient. Tomorrow we'll finish the course outlines and I'll explain what the "Blues News" assignment is. The AP kids will also be assigned Frankenstein to start reading for the end of the month.
Period 3--Pre-AP 10
Again, we just looked at the course outline and classroom procedures. Tomorrow they'll be assigned Of Mice and Men to complete with a double entry journal that will be due in about three weeks (it's a short novel). While they are reading that at home, we will be studying Macbeth. We're jumping right into it!
Period 4--History 10
Course outlines were passed out and we examined the concepts of Timelines. We used their own life as an example and started plotting it out together on the board. The will be given a sheet tomorrow and will use the textbook to find the dates. From there we will make a timeline of European events. We will get into current events next week.
Period 5--History 30
We looked at the course outlines and reviewed classroom procedures. We then played a guessing game with famous Canadians. Before the bell rang, we were looking at all the information they know about Canadian history and Canadian prime ministers. Then we started reviewing American history and presidents that they know. Tomorrow we will finish these lists and then examine the reasons for the disparity in the amount of knowledge they have.
REMINDER FOR ALL STUDENTS: Please get your parents to read the orange sheet and fill out their email addresses so I can create some lists to be able to contact home!

Welcome to Mrs. Tulp's Blog!
The intent of this blog is for those of you who may miss some classes and need to get up to date. Parents and students alike are welcome to view the blog and let me know if you have any questions. Hopefully, this will help keep everyone current and informed. Be patient with me--I'm a first time "blogger!"
For this semester at OHS, the courses I teach are:
ELA B 30 (regular)
multi-graded ELA B 3o/AP 30 split
Pre-AP 10
History 10
History 30
Once I get the hang of this a bit more, I'm hoping to attach handouts and the odd blogging assignment, so keep checking once school starts!
